50 Year Commemorative DVD: Whiting Standard Oil Fire 1955 |
|
On Saturday morning of August 27, 1955, at 6:15 a.m., without warning, several explosions tore apart Fluid Hydroformer Unit 700. Debris rained down from the sky damaging several homes in the process, and then the fires began. 600 homes were evacuated while the Little City on the Lake held its breath, waiting for the smoke to clear. When the fire was finally put out on September 4, 1955, fifty nine tanks had been completely destroyed, along with 1 1/4 million barrels of crude and refined products, not to mention the damage to civilian homes and refinery structures. This was an event that changed the face of Whiting forever. Many of the homes destroyed in the aftermath would never be rebuilt, and the day lives in infamy as the day Whiting was knocked out of bed.
Now for the first time, MAHP is proud to present to you this 50 Year Commemorative
DVD, “Standard Oil Fire Collection”. Three volumes of Standard Oil Fire 1955 footage are here on one
DVD. PLUS, you get bonus, never-before seen footage of other Whiting, IN fire disasters on this single
DVD. A full two hours of historic film footage in both black/white and color. August 2005 marks the 50 year anniversary of this tragic event. Bringing these memories together for you is just one more way to say we’re proud to be “Your MAHP To The Past!” |
